Szeged, the bicycle friendly city!

Szeged’s carbon dioxide emissions fell 40 tons in May 2019 as the number of people going to work by bike is increased thanks to the Bike to work, Bam! (Bringázz a munkába!) campaign. In the competition the ranking of the big cities (except Budapest) is led currently by Szeged with almost 13,000 kilometres.

Every fifth people in Szeged choose bicycle

The Bike to work! campaign started on 6 May and already 1582 companies have joined with 1670 teams and 4963 cyclists whose performance is measured in different categories.

The bike to work campaign is aimed at promoting and spreading cycling to work in Hungary and in the first two weeks all the participants

  • cycled 223,850 km,
  • saved almost 32.2 million HUF (98,519 EUR) of fuel,
  • saved 36 tons of CO2,
  • burned more than 4 million calories.

All participating cities, companies, their teams and individual cyclists are displayed in the ranking and challenge each other

After Budapest, Szeged is the first city on the list with 1535 days cycled to work, the second is Debrecen with 699 days and third one is Székesfehérvár with 544 cycling days.

If we check the results in kilometre then Szeged is also on the top with 13.662 km however, Debrecen and Székesfehérvár changed places, the latter reached second place with 7180 km while the former became the third with 6497 km.

The registration is open between 6-31 May for the spring campaign and between 9-22 September for the autumn campaign. It worth joining because cyclists are not only become more fit and enjoy a stress-free transport, but there are also great prizes to win.

Two and a half million forints total prize, branded bikes, exciting adventure programs, guided city walks, entrance tickets, bike accessories are just some of the prizes to be won.
